temperature readings?

Well I'm very pleased that at last I appear to heave sorted the wheel bearing and drive shaft problems and have also finished fitting the auto gas kit although I am still on petrol until I feel ready for the tinkering!!! Anyway I took her for the first real drive since I have had her including some motorway and A roads and was surprised to see the temperature running just after the red led in the middle. (Most cars seem to run just under half way). So is this normal? No sign of overheating and no air coming from bleed screw on Rad just coolant.

Thanks jrt , I have not heard my fan operating as yet. I know it works when bridging the contacts with a piece of wire on both speeds but obviously either the switch is bust or I haven't got it hot enough yet!!!!

Just after the red line ^^^^ my money is on a faulty radiator fab switch...just minutes to swap and afterwards gives you a warm glow of contentment when it clicks in just over half way.
It is also worth checking the earth crowns above the fuse box as I believe someone mentioned that the fan earth comes all the way back to this point.
