Brushable seam sealer strips paint

Has anyone else had this problem? I welded a patch into the bottom of my breather box and treated it with vactan and hammerite, allowing it to dry in between. I then brushed on a thick coat of "grey stripe" brushable seam sealer, but found that it stripped it instantly back to bare metal.

What order should I have the metal / vactan / paint / sealer? Or is it likely to be a duff brand I'm using.

Cheers,
Tim

The problem is probably the hammerite.
You'll probably have similar problems with most non-2-pack paints as the solvent in the seam sealer will dissolve the paint.
I'm not a big fan of the grey stripe stuff either as I've found it can be peeled off paint fairly easily when dry.
I got a german branded tin of stuff that is much better....can't remember the brand....cr4 or something...
