Rev Counter vs Scanguage

New scanguage is telling me the engine is turning at 5-600rpm higher than the rev counter when at 100kph. Rev counter show 2900 scanguage says 3500.

Shows 916 on the scanguage at idle and the needle points just below the 1000.

I feel my world just caved in; all those hours of satisfaction because I was'nt revving the nads off the engine gone ....

1.9tdi AFN engine with 120A Alternator; could it be the signal off the alternator is not 'matched' to the counter ?

I think that's the thing with the alt, it doesn't match the rev counter. You can adjust it so it's accurate at a particular rpm, say 3000rpm. Everywhere else it will be slightly out. Sounds like yours is accurate at idle, quite easy to adjust now you have the scangauge for reference..
Mine idles at 860, I also have the 120 alt. so what speed were you doing when you thought you were at 2900rpm?
This is one of the reasons I haven't bought a rev counter dash yet.

Forget rev counters etc. What matters is the noise your engine makes. If it sounds sweet it's fine. If it's screaming it's not.
:)

I was doing circa 100kph Lloyd.

Only got the guage the other day so set it up and went out for a bit of a run yesterday evening.

Wanted to check coolant temp as well which shows 92C with the needle slightly above LED as normal operating temperature; no idea what stat is in there as I have never touched it.

Will set up the trip meter as well and see how it compares to the IOS app records I have been keeping.

Only thing I cant sort out at the moment is why the scanguage wont show any MPH output.

mph is on there, in settings. might be set to kph at the moment?
first option in settings is distance, change this to miles from kilometers. then as you scroll through your gauge options, one will be mph. Mine is set to kilometers and the kph comes up directly after LHK as you scroll through.
If you have already done all that and its not working, do you have a speed sensor wired into tdi loom? if not it won't know it..
92deg is about right for a 87deg stat. Mine hangs around 85-90

@62mph i'm doing 3125rpm, sounds like your lower geared than me?!

Ill have to take a look in there ! Pretty sure theres a speed sensor in there. Looks at the flywheel if I recall correctly ? Whether its wired or not is another thing entirely !

I play my music load :D

Thats not for vehicle speed, you want a little electronic thing that plugs into the back of the speedo, MY82 on this link
http://www.rjes.com/html/vss.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
i think your thinking of the crank speed sensor?

Same here, but I can still hear that sweet note of the engine through the music.
:pimp

I few comments, yup Scangauge is right tacho is wrong. Idle is a bit high at 916, should be 860 as Lloyd says, maybe it was adjusted by the installer to avoid a vibe or resonance somewhere at tickover. Can be adjusted using VCDS under 'adaption'.

The alt is probably off because the pulleys were substituted during the engine swap, its probably out by the same factor across the rev range (eg. further out as revs increase). It *should* be possible to correct it by tweaking the pot on the back of the tacho (under the paper label).

If Scangauge is showing no 'mph' then probably you have no functioning vehicle speed sender. There's no reason you should have one, unless you want to enable cruise control. Simplest way to add one with a stock T3 dash panel is the get one off RJES. Then you can get a cruise control stalk, adapt the ECU for cruise, and away you go !

Coolant temp, should be similar to thermostat temp when fully warmed up, the sender has two elements, one for the ECU, and one for the gauge. Scangauge is reporting what the ECU is seeing. There could easily be a slight discrepancy between them of a degree or two either way. 92 doesn't seem anything to be concerned about, in fact running a bit warm will help the engine a bit. Like Lloyd I struggle to get mine up to temp, I guess maybe yours is working that bit harder given the weight of your Westy.

Ah thanks for that both, that makes more sense. Cruise Control? Only if it works while your making a brew; otherwise ill just drive thank you !

How much loom modification is involved in fitting the my82>?

Not a lot, it just needs a connection to ignition and earth, and one wire to the ECU, I can let you know the pin number.
