Found a loose bit - what is it and do I need it ?

Hi all,

Whilst sorting out my rear lights today I discovered this part just lying behind the lights.

There's an obvious place to connect it and it will go up towards the nearside air intake. I'm confused because my van is water cooled and I thought the side air vents were just cosmetic as its not an air cooled van.

Hoping one of you guys can shed some light on this as I'm a complete novice with mechanics.

Thanks in advance

Eric

As to rear vents being cosmetic, view this thread from yesterday.

My engine is totally different to yours but I would say that is your intake pipe.

Diseasels have them also - they should connect at the top to the plastic gubbins and to the air filter at the bottom. Nothing to do with air cold solely.

Missed this thread yesterday because until today air vents were not on my horizon. Having read it though it does make more sense. Front engined vehicles have an air intake do rear engines would too.

I'll open her up again tomorrow and try and fit it where it belongs.

Thanks guys.

the corrugated pipe goes up the D pillar and attaches to the snorkel.( remove the black vent at top of d pillar and you'll see it)the elbow then connects to your air filter via another bit of pipe which might well have rotted away..

Ok had a bash but the pipe is way too short so obviously corroded away. Guess I'll have to source a length. Can I use a heating type ventilation pipe as I'm sure this will be cheaper or is this not suitable ?
