painting wheels

Well, my new 15 inch Mefros have arrived, and now I want to give them a coat of paint. So, do I have to paint ALL of the wheels - including the bit between the rims, that gets covered by the tyre? Should I tape over the wheel stud holes, or doesn't it matter if they get paint on them? What about the wheel face that goes against the hub/drum, should I keep it clear of paint?
