Clutch gone?

What a friggin day I have had with the old girl. First off had a look at the cold start and found that the cable cover had broken in three places quite close to the engine, this caused the cable to bend when trying to open/close the cold start :x So seeing as new cable would be the obvious remedy, no not me, re-situated the whole cable run a little closer by putting it on the gearshift housing, worked a treat.
Went to drive off the ramp, and crap lost my clutch, zippo nothing dead as door nails. Looked underneath and could see it dripping drip drip drip, oil! It seems a pipe has split but no it could not be somewhere simple could it, oh no, it is right above the fuel tank arghhhhh, keys flying, tools everywhere, am not a happy man :(

What is the best way to tackle this pain in the butt job...... open to suggestions and the help and advice is appreciated :?

An extra question, seeing as it maybe my metal pipe that has split, is there a problem using plastic piping from slave to slave?

Brickwerks do a repair kit ... it is basically 2 compression fittings and a length of new pipe.

Cut the pipe at a good part and again after the tank and fit the fittings. Our clutch pipe is (deliberately) in 4 pieces after a very similar episode to yours.

Thanks will keep them in mind, if i cannot source anything locally.
I managed to find the root of the problem (rusted mid section of rigid pipe right above the tank, both parts no off and in my garage), and am so happy that it happened here at home and not in the far reaches of lapland which is where we go each summer, fishing :)

Does anyone know what the pressure is within the clutch piping system?

Not enough to prevent you using compression fittings and Kunifer.

Okay, i only ask as i have sourced plenty of flexi hose such as that used in water connections etc... I am not sure i want to risk a compression or any other join above the tank again!

Okay I have managed to source some kuniper piping from an ebay shop in the UK, not a bad price, less than 20 quid including shipping here to Finland :)

Which is the right oil to replenish clutch system? I was thinking Pennzoil Dot4, is there any better ones out there for these golden oldies :D

DOT4 is the good stuff for brake/clutch hydraulics. Change it every two years. Brand's less relevant.

There is DOT5, and DOT5.1, but they're both overkill. DOT5 silicon fluid has a stack of reasons not to. DOT5.1 has fewer of those, but there's just not enough benefit for a road vehicle - especially in Finnish ambient temps!

Well have to say, job done :)

That kunifer pipe was great to work with, more flexible than rigid copper or plastic piping. I connected the front end after feeding the line through to the back, cut and molded it whilst under the van, bled the system with pump syphon, wallah worked a treat, am a happy man again :ok
