Can't seem to find anything on the WIKI so here goes. Maybe i am opening a can of worms, but can Skoda diesel engines be transplanted into T3's?
Did VW not take them over in about '95? A lot cheaper than VAG!
I await the deluge!!

It's a good question
I know the Skoda
petrol engines are pretty much plug n play into Golfs and Sciroocos and can be fitted in place of the T25 Diesel engine.
Aside = a mate of mine fitted a 2Ltr 16V injected Skoda motor into his Sciroccco. That engine had 20+ more BHP than the original 1.8Ltr Scirocco engine, but when he informed his insurance company that he had fitted the Skoda engine, his premium went down by £30 (and no, that was not a joke, it is true!)

In a word...yes.
The 1.9D AEF engine has been used by quite a few people.

Thanks for all the replies. Interesting.
You can pick up Skoda's for a lot less than the VAG equivalent.
A 1.9TDI from a Superb/Octavia?

They're ECU controlled and the later ones are PD engines.
Anything's do-able...depends how deep your pockets are.

Too complicated/expensive Steve?
PD? Pumped Duece? but what is the difference between that and earlier engines?
And are conversion plates for bellhousing widely available? Steve, you stated that conversions had been done so presume that the parts are available or a DIY job?
Excuse my ignorance

For a non PD TDi...Very as they are fly by wire plus the gearbox will need a rebuild to gain the best from the engine.

Google is your friend.

Non PD's use the T25 Diesel bellhousing.
PD's don't need an adaptor plate..

Skoda Felicia 1.9D is a good source of AEF engines. Plenty of low mileage examples on Fleabay most of the time. They were also fitted to VW Polos of around 1998 vintage.
I can recommend the AEF as a good replacement for a 1.6D CS (not for a 1.6TD JX though) at reasonable cost. It has transformed my Camper.
http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/16cs- ... KW=#413096" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is a step by step guide to the conversion. Once you have read it, if you have any specific queries, I'll have a go at answering.

Thanks G60Steve and Colinthefox for the info.
My JX works absolutely fine at the mo but was just wondering what would be an easy/cheap swap thats why I queried the Skoda engine.
So G60steve, PD the route to go if you have a JX?

no mate....you will need very deep pockets and very specialised skills to graft a late PD into the place where a JX was.
simpler upgrades would be AAZ engine.....then AHU (complicated on the wiring front...but people like SyncroAndy can now supply full looms)....then AFN...bit more complicated...but more power....then you are into later PD stuff which has been done but I would say it was out and out specialist.
add at least a grand for gearbox build, strengthen and bigger gearing too
