o.k did an oil change today and thought i'd clean strainer (first time) had new gaskets so thought may as well...
cover off not a problem..
pulled strainer and nothing, thought maybe stuck so noted there was a notch either side and thought a gentle push with a screw driver would
1 dislodge it possibly
2 tell me whether it screws off central bolt??
what it actually did was cut through thus making slot bigger so the strainer stayed in and filled her back up......
decided to search everwhere for how it comes out and best i got from(haynes ,wiki, archive ,internet)was pull it out
soooooooo do i just pull it out ??? and tips welcome

Should just come out with a wiggle unless some muppet has stuck gasket sealent all round it. I had one like that, they had not bothered to use the gaskets at all When you replace your strainer next time just smear a bit of clean grease on the gaskets if you wish (helps keeps them in place if your under the van and its very windy), but not sealent . What ever you do only torque the oil screen plate to 9ft-Ib.

thought that a wiggle should do it , tried to lever it off and wouldnt budge!
may have to get new one as think removing it will cause some damage to the rather frail alloy case ,
thank for the reply

This sounds like something I'd like to find and check - can you give me an idea of how to get to this strainer please? I have an oil problem in my engine and I'd love it to be this. I have a 1.6 deisel engine on an 86 van. Thanks

you dont have it on a diesel, you have a screw on type easily visable when engine lid removed (black, cylinder type thing)
