Hi,
can Any one help with this ongoing issue please.
for my sins i run a non turbo 1.6 d, which is pedestrian but reliable.
No loss of oil or coolant,
New injectors,
New timing belt and pulleys,
Recent service inc filters, even gear oil is fresh but,
Takes ages to come up on all four when staring, then it
Runs ok until I come to any sort
Of incline, then it only runs on 3 and there is a def loss of power (not that there was much to begin with).
there is also smokey exhaust, not horrendous but not normal.
Not black smoke but kind of blue .
Once at the top of aforementioned incline , I let it settle and it comes back to running on all four again.

Can any diesel folks help please.

Fuel filter included in that service? Do you have a non return valve fitted between the filter and the pump, if not then try that.

CI (compression ignition) engines rely on the high compression ratio (23:1 in the case of a CS) to generate heat required to ignite the diesel fuel as it mixes in the pent chamber. Any loss of 'mechanical fitness (compression) will have a detrimental effect on fuel combustion.
I would recommend that you have a specialist carry out a compression check and report back. (Compression figure of 34bar is quoted)
Think of it this way, when cruising there is a nominal amount of fuel being injected into the hot compressed air and the fuel is burnt well. However, increasing the volume of fuel maybe too much for the amount of heat....like putting too much wood on a bonfire which then puts the flames out.
As compression is directly related to the amount of heat that is generated, checking the compression should be your first priority.
This may also be responsible for the poor cold starting.
Other factors like 'over fueling' , or dribbling injectors (instead of spraying a fine mist which mixes more easily) but these don't normally effect full throttle running.
Air filter blocked....not allowing enough air into the engine.
Things like air leaks/fuel filter blocked.
Tappet clearances closed up.......particularly at higher speeds where soft springs maybe allowing some valve bounce or inadequate valve seating.
