i have had my turbo fully rebuilt as it was leaking oil.i fitted it yesterday with new oil return pipe the oil feed pipe was recent new oil cooler and oil and filter change were also done started it up yesterday first time for months fired up ok and ran but noticed some oil dripping from the turbo but it was thick and black just like the stuff i had taken out my dipstick is still showing clean oil (only ran for 20 mins) so im wondering if i should take the manifold off and clean that out or is there anything else i can look at before condeming this turbo?

Well I have still got a leaking turbo but the inlet side is dry it is coming out where the down pipe attaches I have tried various positions with the oil return pipe is there anything on the breather side that could cause a pressure build up?

Have you took the breather off to check how oily it is? Check out the last post in my getting there thread in syncro section. Shows the difference a oil seperator can make. If its really oily, the puck might be faulty

I have same issue with my new turbo. When I get a chance to get dirty I am going to empty and refill oil without using dipstick, ensure turbo is clocked correctly and ensure oil drain is as good as can be angle wise. Other than that I am out.

Hope you get it sorted. If I find fix for mine I will let you know.

i have removed the turbo and pipework 3 times now and cleaned out im thinking it now might be the angle at which my van has sat while being restored im on a slight incline facing forwards hence the oil is towards the oil return worth a try i suppose

I just had a look at mine. Oil return had kink. Temporary 'sorted' it for testing but still leak. Whilst down there I noticed my oil return was not at the six oclock position, I read it should be as close as possible but due to the feed pipe I wont be able to adjust. I assume it is the correct position (about 5 o'clock) as im using brickwerks feed. Thght worth a mention as m search continues
