Funny symptom. 1.9DG after a long run and filled up with unleaded she died at top of small hill with what sounded like fuel starvation. Ive spent time and money getting the engine working well. New water pump, coil, ignition amp, belt, plugs, cap, leads and fuel pump. So, I takes off the fuel line from the carb and turn her over to get nothing.....suck on the pipe for ages (nasty!) and eventually I get what sounds like bubbling/petrol not quite getting to me ...quite...put pipe back on an fire away and she starts and runs. I checked the fuel filter which seemed ok. Is it possible for fuel to get sucked back into tank for some reason?? Or other funny business.

If fitted inline fuel filter could be blocked.

Sometimes they can look good but still be holding fuel back, I'd change anyway. Other thing to check is that the tank is not building up a vacuum. If it does it again pop the cap off and spin it to see if the pump then pulls fuel through.

E D I T; Another thing I have just remembered is sometimes a bit of rust or sludge can get dislodged and restrict flow, if its not vacuum in the tank try blowing back through the fuel line to clear the blockage.

Never known a tank on a T25 to develop a vacuum or met anyone else who has either. Seen it on plenty of other vehicles. Would agree on filter and debris though. Pump pushrod long enough?

Thanks, useful info.new pump hsd correct and newish pushrop. I did drop a rubber grommit in the tank last year.....snd know this may have an impact / debris etc. Will try the bliw back method sounds good. Is there a way if fitying a small hand pumped manual pump for these situations?

Just fit an electric pump - line will be primed almost instantly then.

Yes or perhaps after replaving the lines and filter I could fitva non return valve just before the carb?

Mine syphons back to the tank if I park on a hill! I can hear air being sucked in through the fuel pump pivot after the engine has been run.
I havnt sorted it out yet though, no fuel leak from pump yet but will get it replaced.
Ive seen non return valves for sale on ebay, thought that might be a good idea to fit?
