Probably a silly question but i have a fuel leak on the return pipe on my van (1984 1.9 petrol) so going to change the pipes this weekend. Does the tank need to come off to change the pipes?

Hi I changed mine recently(1.6TD) i took the tank off for inspection, it was a mess, the top was caked in about 4 or 5 inches of wet sand/soil/muck which was rusting the tank, also inside the tank was filthy/sludgy so i scrapped it and bought a new one, it might be worth inspecting the tank while your on with the fuel lines.
If it's the same set up as mine i think you could do the job with out removing the tank, if your replacing the breather tank pipes then the tank will have to come off, also well worth checking the fuel filler neck for splitting mine was goosed and was letting water into the diesel tank.
