1.9 WBX Early Cooling System Broken...

Hi all,
Have just managed to snap off a part of my cooling system (to be fair, it wasn't held on with much anymore - somewhat brittle after 26 years of active service!)
It is the very small plastic pipe that comes out of part 10 on this diagram:

Connects to a small bore pipe that in turn connects to a larger metal pipe that runs across the top of the engine.
It appears to be for bleeding purposes only though as far as I can tell water only runs through this pipe when the adjacent bleed valve is open? Is this right?
So options:
1) buy a new one (having looked though obsolete and rare!)
2) get a suitably sized plastic connector and glue into the hole (is this feasible - any glue reccomendataions?) I've got a plastic connector that is a snug fit, but not sure if any glue would hold?
3) blank off both ends if its part of the bleed loop (after i've bled it!)
4) sell the van and buy a tent.
Any other early van owners who can help?
Cheers,
Alex
