Looking to paint my fibreglass motent to match the van. Need some heavy duty paint remover thats not going to damage the fibreglass. Any recommendations? I used Owatrol marine strip gel remover on a small area but is was not as good as i hoped.
Cheers

Thanks chaps.
I've been told the same thing flatten back with da sander. But then use 2 or 3 layers of acrylic primer before top coats.
The thing is the motent in question has been painted with what looks like a primer & very thick rollered topcoat. Would you suggest just flattening back the topcoat only. I'm guessing I dont need to remove all paint. Any thoughts?

I'd try just sanding back the top coats until I reach a good, sound base. As the others say, I'd avoid any chemical that could likely attack the gel coat or you'll have even more work to do.

If the paint to be removed isn't a 2 pack, then it's possible that it hasn't thoroughly cured, and your disks will soon get clogged up with soft paint :( So avoid over-sanding so that the paint becomes hot and melts, use light pressure and expect to buy an extra box of discs to get the job done. Been there myself! Try 80 grit to kick off with and increase grit sizes accordingly before primer. [You can buy 40 & 60 grit too but these are very aggressive so take care if you use them or you will hit the gel coat]

Dont forget to wear a decent dust mask too

Good luck with it :ok

Thanks again Cornish camper. It doesnt help that I'm using a cheap & cheerful orbital sander. Thinking I should invest in a decent one!!
