Buying advice on 2.1i engine please

Hi, can anyone give me some advice on T25 engines please?
at the moment I have an Autosleeper pop-top 1.9dg and I will be changing it in the next 3 months, I have a vision of what my next camper will be and it includes the 2.1i engine. Is this engine far superior to the 1.9 ie for power and reliability? Fuel consumption isnt an issue as not a daily driver.
There aren't as many of these around so is it worth hunting for?
Thanks
Ade.

Many of us have the 2.1DJ in a 1.9DG van using the DG Pierburg and lpg conversions, MUCH more grunt and far more smiles .... do a search in the Technical Forum '1.9 to 2.1' or similar

The MV is the sweetest 2.1 IMHO, a well running one is a joy!

Personally I'd have to say that there really isn't the dramatic difference
That you might be hoping for!!!

Adam, when run with the DG carb there's only the water pump/oil cooler piping that's different And there is a big difference in power compared to a DG.

I swapped my DG for a DJ in my 'sleeper
I junked the injection
and fitted my DG gear to the 2.1 (carb and anciliaries)
It now drives like a car.
I LPG'd it too, what a transformation..
Best three hours I ever spent

Thanks for the replies.
I' ve seen a nice 1.6 Aircooled for sale but I think that is a step in the wrong direction.
A friend has just bought a 1.6td and he's quite happy with that. The trouble with my 1.9 is that it feels most happy at about 55mph so i dont feel like taking it on motorways, does the 2.1 cruise a bit faster?

Yes Ian,that must be the best way foward(carb conversion),All the 2.1s ive got/had nearly always seem to have niggly running issues with electronics and inj.Perhaps thats what i should start doing (carb conversions).thanks Adam

Also you've got a more powerful engine than my DF which uses a Pierburg carb. I'm wondering if you might have a tuning problem cos my motor is happiest at 100 kph (62.5 mph) and will allow me to get up to 70mph (even 75 occasionally) on the flat.

Did it seriously take 3 hours?!
And did you get a 2nd hand or recon engine?

for the outlay of a good 2.1 engine you can fit a more modern engine without the design flaws and problems you get with a wbx

Yep, or a TDi but would you really want to have the confusion around what comes from what car etc ....
The nice persons asking about 2.1 engines not conversions ... I believe ?

The only design flaw is the muppet that owns it and abuses it
And yes three hours.
With lots of prep and post fitting work
But the actual swap was three
