Engine block code

Ok, so I'm trying to figure out which engine I have in my van. I THOUGHT it was a 1.6 diesel, but then considering that it was made in 1989, that makes it impossible since they stopped making them in 89. That leaves it possibly being a 1.7 KY engine right?

So I took a look at the engine code and it reads

CR 250 378

But I can't find any other info on it. I came across this link in the search:
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... e#p7802923" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So does that indicate that it's a 1.6 Golf/Jetta/Caddy non turbo?

In addition, what's missing from here?!

Hello,

it looks to me like the bit missing is the cover for the viewport in the bell housing for finding the tdc mark. What you've found I think is a casting number - to find the engine code usually you need to look under number 3 and 4 injector at the top of the block (just under the head gasket), there should be a flat section which contains the engine code - you'll probably need to clean this up quite well to find it. That's where it was on mine in any case. It should be pretty obvious if it's a turbo or non-turbo!

CR is 54hp 1.6 n/a diesel fitted ~1980-84 to the cars above.

Thanks guys. I got the code from under the large coolant hose. So, out of interest, If I need replacement parts for this engine in the future, where's best to buy them?!
