any SAAB 93 owners out there?

Hi all

My wife bought herself a 2005 SAAB 93 convertable in 2008 when she took early retirement as a treat to herself for 35 years service to Lloyds TSB.

We have had nothing but trouble with the car ever since, weve had a front spring snap, boot popping open whilst on the move, the complete 'Infotainment console' has been replaced. The 'Limp home mode' is always coming on, today the indicators are playing up. You can indicate left but when incating right the stalk will not stay in the up position. If you hold it up the flashers still wont work. checked on a SAAB forum and it talks of a faulty CIM whatever one of those is but they cost up tp £800! any ideas apart from sell it

Thanks Paul

These modern cars with everything computerised really can be an absolute bugger for all sorts of random things.

the seats are comfy tho, generally saab are pretty bullet proof, has it ever been in a crash mite be a cause for dodgy electrics i say this because i had a vectra that had been front ended at sometime in its life and the engine management light would come on then go off ..

I had a Saab 93 Sportswagen for 4 years from new (company car) and it was the best car I've ever had. I got the 150bhp engine which fairly shifted. Had a few niggles along the way but nothing major. It had just touched 100k miles when I handed it back and drove like new.
Still miss it. Got a Mondeo now which is okay but not a patch on the Saab. More legroom in the back though.

Hi all

Thanks for the response, SAAB now fixed, took it to a saab specialist In Glossop. After warning us that a replacement wiper/indicator stalk console was £600+ we dropped it off and hoped for the best. Richard Elliot the owner at SAAB Tech rang us a few hours later to say it was fixed £110.10p. Thanks to a mechanic who never threw anything away someone had a new console fitted at great expense but the part we needed still worked on the one they had replaced :D

Glad you got it sorted.

I changed job recently and gave up 20 years of company car at the same time. I drive 550 miles every week as I work in Portsmouth and live in East Yorkshire, I bought a 2004 Saab 93 2.2 diesel for £2K and I have to say it's perfect for the job - dead comfy, mega reliable and does the journey effortlessly. It's done 114,000 miles and does the job as well as any of the brand new german stuff I'd had as company cars for the last 20 years. The only reason I'd change it is to get another 93 with the more fuel efficient 1.9 diesel with 6 speed.
