I'll put them on Vito 5.5 x 15" again to make life easy but I really can't go bigger or wider than the 215/75/15 which seem to be about 680mm dia. now they are part worn, more like 330mm rolling radius before airing down.

4.86 diffs are the limiting factor, until I find more N.m by pushing the air into the engine forceably

I fitted BFG MT's especially for the event and they were awesome

No campsite slippage with no difflocks

Surprisingly well mannered and quiet on road as well

Yeah - but you weren't at the top of the slope!!

I have Hankook. RT01 on the Iltis, sensible money and a pattern very similar to BFG ATs.
Done alright on there however I do find that it has a tendency to slide sideways, not sure if that's a product of the tyres or the truck as its the only tyres I've had on there.

Oh, and been great in the snow other than when I beached the Iltis on a snowdrift, not really the tyres fault either!

I've got insa sahara turbo, they came with the doka, although a remould / budget i think they are very good, in general i think that muds are a good idea if you can run to it, everything helps as you know and when the s**t hits the fan I think i would be glad i gave myself every chance, having said that plenty of vans without that seemed to fair ok?

I had a pretty hairy moment going down hill and barely under control (round the hill CCW from the mud-hole and through the pine trees), MT's might have given me more grip for the desent but...if they had dug in when it got messy then we would have been joining the flush doorhandle club at the very least. A recovery would have been a nighmare. Dai saw the whole thing but still had a go after me It was ragged edge time...

I would have liked more traction to try and get back up on the dryer side too (thanks to Glenn and Nick for sawing the tree) as two attempts only got me close to the halfway plateau! The motor was delivering the goods but the AT's were full up. They're not going to get a load of use, but grip is grip and we didn't have enough.

Climbing up to the camp was just a laff, first gear and a lot less throttle did the job after a bit of fun. You can't beat a good opposite lock powerslide

yep saw your tracks (skid marks??) looked interesting , we followed you down after Dai who gave us the route

Skiddies allright... monster adrenaline rush at the bottom, had to have a quiet minute to myself with the handbrake on

Ok this weekend i saw the theory put to the test, too wide tyre and your grip is medium in very muddy or sandy place (or snow too),
so 205 like on mine were good. BUT like Dai (i don't know if I spelled your name correctly) Fat tyre + POWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA = it works ! As demonstrate on that video
800BHP+ and bucket tyres = thrust (First law of Newton )

ANd tyres, did you see them Duratrack Goodyear ? i think i'm gonna get some Goodrich or goodyear.

Les Guyanes c'est trop cher, old fruit. £140 yoyos a pop?!!

Looks like there are deals on 4 x Insa Saharas for £350, would want a spare though. Why don't they sell them in 5's? Do the cognoscenti all put Slime in their tyres? Wouldn't get you round a gashed sidewall though.

I know they aren't cheap BUT i think they'd last longer specially on road use. I don't know yet what i want i think that's gonna be my year dilemma.

The insa are very noisy on road , seriously aggressive tread

I wouldn't run them on the road, strictly for weekend playtime only so they can be a more aggressive pattern and softer rubber. The AT2's are fine for tarmac and gravel, when they get worn out I may go to the AT as they are closer to a road tread so less draggy.

PS I used to have Goodyear Wranglers on my 1984 Rangie and they lasted for over 30000 miles road use.
