As most know, my recent purchase has come with a single weber. Would I be right in thinking these would be a good buy off the well known auction site 171021814460 and what sort of price would you pay for them?

The manifold would not fit a cu from what I can see
Nor might any of the linkages, and filter so you might only use the carbs.
Which will need re jetting

Although theres also a train of thought, and one I'm inclined to stay with, that actually a bigger engine that won't have to work so hard can return a reasonable mpg and have plenty of power compared to stock which lets be honest, has to be force fed to get anything out of it.

Personally I think carbs are just part of the answer (Dellortos can be impressive) but if you want to force it in, you need to force it out too to get the maximum benefit. I've built a few beefy engines based on the v-dub lump but they all involved a rethink from the bottom up including fitting a more suitable cam, proper valve geometry and the like. I always felt the T25 would have run much better with something more in the 3litre line - it always was a little under-powered.

As for webbers and 009 dizzies, well.....

yes bigger engines are usually better on fuel than small engines, due to not having to drive them as hard my 2.4 van was loads better on fuel than my standard Aircooled motor and my now bigger Aircooled engine is better than the 2.4 2.0 or 1.9 wbx i have owned , the carbs would have fit but would need re jetting and a rolling road tune to set up this would all up your budget , also the manifolds would not fit as they were designed for the type 1 head not type 4 , the linkage would need shortening due to the type 4 motor being narrower between the heads , best to look out for a set specially for the type 4 motor with the push pull bas style linkage as loads easier to set up than the hex bar linkage due to the manifolds not being available in offset style for the type 4 motor
