Hey all!

I've got a brickwerks gearbox mount bushing on the way in the post.

The good folks there recommend removing the mounting plate/bracket in order to remove the old rubber bush, and install the new one.

Now it looks like my vans gearbox mount has never been touched since the thing was built! The bolts are rather rusty looking and my fear is, I attempt to undo and snap one off in the chassis.

That'd be bad as I'm going all DIY and don't want to render the van un drivable. I'm sure many of you have had that thought!

So, can the bushing be squeezed into place by just lowering the gearbox, supported on a trolley jack? Or will I find there isn't enough movement to drop the box down enough to do the swap? Any experience before I wrench away and find out for myself?

The original bush (including it's outer steel shell) needs to be pressed out, to do that it has to be off the van. I've just done a 1.9 mounting and will be doing two 2.1s directly

* take note all those with 2.1DJs fitted to 1.9DG vans because the bushes ARE different ... *sighs*

I was under the van earlier, I couldn't see any outer shell around the rubber, but I might be wrong. Either that or the shell is actually missing, the rubber is perished and the gearbox can be lifted ever so slightly even by hand!

I had to chisel off a weld tack before the outer bush casing would move .... and Mocki will be able to back me up on this Once at work we turned down a socket to fit precisely and then in the press it came out quite smoothly.

I found it easier to cut through the outer shell of the old bush with the hacksaw once the remains of the rubber part had been pushed out, the outer shell was pretty corroded so just had to be careful to watch where the bush finished and the mount started so as to not cut into the mount at all, once a slit was cut the remains came out with a little prying

i fitted the yellow urathane gearbox mount of ebay fitted really easy and no extra transmission noise loads better than the stock rubber,
