Hi all,
Just a quick note!? Can anyone advice on which is best for my Frederick. Going to get 4 new tyres tomorrow and dont know which to get. At the moment i have 185/60 R14, but have been told 70 is a better ride and feel. Can anyone advice been quote £35 per tyre fitted and balanced which is cheap.

185/80 was standard fit. 195/70 would be an alternative, but 185/60 14 is WAY too low profile. Your speedo and mileometer will be reading fast, and the van'll be revving higher for a given (accurate) cruising speed. You will be using more fuel.

Are the 185/60 - or even 70s - suitable for a van? What's the weight rating? Are they C rated?

"Cheap" is not a good word for tyres. What tyres are they for that price? There's a lot of cheap rubbish out there that's an absolute false economy. A set of four good tyres is cheaper than your insurance excess, even before you start to figure the cost per mile differences. Remember, when you hit the brakes hard, the quality of the tyres makes a BIG difference in your stopping distance. The difference between swearing at the numpty that stepped/pulled out in front of you, and hitting them.

Camskill's website is a really good way to see what's available in what size. Prices are decent. Bargain on £10-15/corner to get 'em fitted locally, or use that as a negotiating ploy with your local tyre places. As ever, avoid the big national chains.
