Lost my reverse lights somehow? Checked through the forum for anyone having similar problem and the only reference i found was regarding the sender unit. I checked that, cleaned it, and replaced both spades just to be sure. checked the obvious, lights, fuses etc., cleaned the earths at the back rear left, but no luck so far? Anyone any ideas :?

Have you checked and cleaned the switch on the gearbox? This seems to be the main reason for them failing. Need to do mine as we're reverse light free at the moment too.

Replaced the gearbox switch on mine last week. Had to leave the washer off to make them work.

Yeah did that, sorry for the confusion, the sender unit i mentioned is the one and the same on the gearbox! Is there any way to check if the switch is at fault before i go and order something that may not be the culprit?

Pull the connector off and short the 2 pins out (on the harness not the switch )with a bit of wire and the lights will come on with the ignition. You can reach it from inside the engine compartment,
If they light up its the switch if they don't its something else.

nicq spot on, crossed both wires, lights nice and bright, so it's the switch, now to source one, thanks for the input and very helpful advice :ok

Just checked in with JK and they say my gearbox is probably from an earlier model? The switch they had did not match what is on my machine? Oh I wish people would log what changes they have done to their vehicle as time progresses. I have noted all changes done to mine so far, just to give the next owner a heads up.

The only difference is the connector, the switches are interchangeable between the 2wd gearboxes iirc

There are some bad quality switches out there so beware. I bought a new one from GSF. Loose as hell, put together by badly paid robots. However, I didn't give up on it, Superglued it so the terminals no longer rattled around, then sealed it with epoxy putty. Sorted. If only they'd taken as much care when it was manufactured.

Whoever you buy it from all you need to tell them there is "no connector just 2 spade terminals"
