Hi thought this might be of interest to anyone with a non standard air filter set up when i bought my van last year it had been converted from JX to 1Y it goes great but above 60mph it was so noisey (induction noise) compared to my last van (JX) that i found myself not wanting to go much above 55mph so today i set about fitting an air box and removed the K&N filter it came with

Got this from a breakers its off a Reanault Megane 1.9 diesel its a snug fit in behind the rear light the centre inlet fits onto the snorkel and with a little adjustment with a hacksaw and a bit of tube the outlet went onto the manifold using the pipe that was on the K&N filter. The difference is the like night and day even at 70mph the loud drone has gone and no smoke or performance issues so well happy :ok

Which K&N filter did you have on to start with - was it the same as this one? I can't hear anything from mine but then the exhaust is pretty throaty!
Which inlet manifold do you have on there?

HI it was a bigger K&N than yours and had a plastic cone/cover over the mesh part and was attached to the snorkel, I think the manifold is the one that was on the engine came from a seat as i said the engine was fitted when i bought the van . The noise was like a loud drone and very noisey changing up through the gears if using any revs but now very quiet exhaust sounds normal so was down to the Air Filter :ok

Is that a "1X" I can see stamped on the inlet manifold in the third picture?

I am of the opinion that using the snorkel is superfluous with most of our diesel vans - none of them seem to have the tinware intact any more so can breathe quite easily.

I used the snorkel as it was there and in good condition and the air box fitted sraight on i am not sure if it helped but the end result is a nice smooth quiet van :ok

What's the problem with your inlet manifold? Which one have you got on?

Is that causing a problem? I'm only asking as I'm planning to convert from CS to 1Y and want to do things right from the beginning.
