Yes, you will need to modify the sump to take the turbo oil-feed return line (SB@Brickwerks does a kit of parts I think)..

If its not a pickup the injection pump will stick up about an inch more than the current one, into the engine lid, just box it in.

Put a new needle bearing in the crank for the input shaft spigot.

You will have to decide whether to keep the exisiting manifold and turbo or get one off a JX... the exhaust too would be useful.

There isn't a complete article on this conversion, but some info on bits 'n pieces and things to do look at TDi and Golf Petrol too

But in the archives here must be a fairly complete run-down - the main choice is whether to use the close-coupled AAZ turbo (and fabricate an exhaust) or use the JX (1.6TD) and the std diesel TD exhaust system.

If you get a good AAZ you have a good engine for a T25 - Full Stop!

I bought a 1.9td Passat had the engine taken out and had it put in my van. Simon at Brickwerks did the work.

Harry does this mean i could remove the existing turbo and exhaust manifold that bolts on to the head and then refit to the aaz .I have a M11 1.6td golf engine fitted in the van that is running fine after a head gasket change and spigot bush oil seals replaced.But smokey on start clears when hot.Sorry if i have hijacked your reply but it is a learning curve for me.I noticed when i removed the cylinder head there was just four bolts that screwed into the turbo manifold this enabled to lift of the cylinder head.I am considering to replace the engine for a AAZ.

Smokey when starting which clears is common, can be turbo seals or valve guide seals if its blue smoke or glo plugs if black smoke with less easy starting.

I haven't seen close up the 'close coupled' solution, if that is the right word for it, but as I said wll try to find time to trawl the archives. The JX solution has four bolts too, very expensive ones (£13 each)...

I will try to get someone else who knows the alternative arrangement better than me to post, perhaps we need some photos to illustrate the two arrangements
