Guilty of spending too much time on Syncro forum ..... I read the complete thread , really great tenacious work gents. Andy continues to operate on another level. I for one am very grateful we have such care, knowledge and imagination within the club.

You're too kind, thanks !
The neat thing is these upgrades used standard parts from the VW parts bin, albeit with a fair bit of head-scratching to figure out what would work, and some minor tweaks. Fortunately VW's parts lists and workshop manuals are readily available and extremely clear. Getting the electrical connections right involved obsessive creation of detailed lists in Excel.
The next step is to lose the crappy T3 switches. The plan is to use the ones from many '90's VW's, eg. Mk3 Golf, T4 Transporter. These will be a good match for the T4 stalks I've already fitted. These use the 'CE2' relay plate, and I figure the neatest way to integrate them is to replace the T3's CE1 relay plate with a CE2 one. This will make much of the dashboard wiring 'plug-and-play', and provide a good basis for further upgrades in a very 'stock' way.
