Earth wire ampage

So in cleaning up the earth connections on the engine, the plastic surround snapped ...

... but the wire inside seems damaged. So what amp wire do I need to replace it?

When I traced it, I found this ...

... which seems somewhat melted.

a) Is it something to be concerned about
b) where do the wires lead to (the wires going in are the - now damaged - engine earth wire and I presume the earth from the gearbox
c) is it an easy fix?

Thanks in advance

I think you'll find everything you need here http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... mepage.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to be able to cut back & replace the damaged cable section & connector

Thats not all earth wire thats the buzzer of doom and oil pressue switches from the connector.
there should also be a brown earth to the block but some people connect the buzzer of doom to earth to keep it quite if they have problames with the switch. get a larger pic up showing coil area as thats where the earth comes from.

You will need high temperature wire if you want to replace oil switch wires as they lay on the engine. Yellow from the loom is the buzzer of doom which is the rear switch, to get to the other switch with is underneath you need to take the tinware off.

Alternatively just add some sleeve

Tie that connector away from the hot engine, it's probably been too close to the exhaust.

25/30 years of age and heat...looks like 2mm2 to me.
As far as 'Engine Earths' are concerned...remember you don't necessarily have to replace existing earth cables, it is often easier is to ADD extra cables and leave the existing ones in place.
