Gas or oil shocks? Which would you go for and if you have a preference, why?

In the past I've fitted space gas adjustable to other cars and made for a smoother and more responsive ride, when I next need some I'm planning on some bilsteins from Brickwerks which are I believe £80/ pair. Don't ask me about physics though!

Well....Gas was always the 'premium' option and oil the standard fitment....I don't things have changed.

Slight aside, but still to do with the choice of dampers (and springs).

These vans were designed as workhorse vans to carry heavy payloads, so the suspension is no doubt designed with that in mind. Our camper vans are a lot lighter than a fully loaded builders van.

I had to carry nine 3 x 2 paving slabs recently and that is a lot of weight !(about three quarters of a ton).
I noted that on that journey, whilst you could certainly tell I had a lot of additional weight on board, the handling and general road "feel" was considerably better

With that in mind, I wonder if our relatively lightly loaded campers might not be better off with softer springs and dampers ? Odd too that many places sell Heavy duty dampers and springs when imho that is the wrong way to go.
