Tailgate Struts

Hi Guys,

I'm just about to fit a fiamma bike rack and noticed that the struts were struggling to keep the tailgate up :| . So the question is: Is this just because they are nearly 25 years old and need replacing or do I need uprated ones?

VW no longer supply this part, so any recommendations for suppliers would be gratefully received.

P.S. I assume fitting is pretty straight forward, but if anyone's got any useful hints or tips, that'd be cool.

Cheers!

The wiki seems to only have info about how to make a strut lock and how to create an interior opener, but I couldn't find any info about changing the struts.
I am looking in the "tailgate" section, is this correct?

Not a big issue, I'm sure the Haynes manual has it covered!

Ok I thought it was there.
Perhaps you could write one up as it comes up a lot. ?
Theres a little "C" clip that holds them on
Once removed they pull off.

You don't need uprated ones. Ours (marked as 650N (standard?) and datestamped 1999, IIRC) hold the tailgate up VERY happily with Fiamma rack on. So it's just age and decraptitude.
