Our bus is making complaining noises sometimes when changing gear.

It is only occasionally, but the gears grind and it takes a couple of goes to get the gear engaged.

I can only guess the sychromesh is wearing out, but I am no expert. Is this a big problem? What needs to be done?

Would like to hear thoughts of the experienced.

Without ore details it would be hard to advise you really..... It the clutch biting point noticeably closer to the floor than before?
It maybe the clutch at fault??

The clutch was recently replaced, though it is pretty much as it was before (it failed, did not wear out)

We were advised by Aiden Talbot, gearbox man, that first stop is to check the oil magnet. He said many T3s never get a gearbox oilchange as VW said it was not necessary. He told me that even if it is wearing out, new oil usually helps things.

Sometimes when i press the clutch to change gear he starts making a grinding noise. It sounds like he is not gripping and there is a slight vibration on the pedal. If i put in the gear anyway it gets louder. I didn't dare to go any further than that so far and let go of the clutch. So i press the clutch again, take it out of gear and let go of the clutch. Then the noise usually disappears and next time it is ok.
sometimes when we start him up cold in the morning i have trouble getting first gear in and the reverse is often a bit tricky. I think this is since we had new clutchplates fitted in italy.

Sounds like it could be the clutch hydraulics. Next time, try "pumping up" the pedal - down, up, down, up, down - THEN try to change.

I wonder if they didn't bleed the clutch properly when they had the gearbox out.
