Rear backing plate. Original or not?

I have just bought these from VW Heritage. Only got them because they was at a sale price. They don't seem to fit the description or match the picture that Brickwerks have on their website. Do they look originals or cheap patterns? Thanks, Jon.

I did think that. Heritage say these are original but I'm not convinced. Brickwerks say the originals weigh more and are galvanised. Could these be black and galvanised?

Thanks. Just checked the picture on the Heritage site and it should be silver/grey. Looks like they could've sold me a copy. Will speak to them tomorrow. Cheers again.

Just spoken to VW Heritage and they first off all said VW send them these parts but as soon as I sounded like I knew what I was on about the bloke went away and then agreed to take them back for a full refund.

This is the first and last time I order from them to save a few quid!

VW Heritage sent me copy parts claiming to be original!

As above. The back plates where simply painted black and seemed rather light. I rang up on Monday and the bloke assured me they were original. After asking a few questions on here I went back to them and eventually they admitted they weren't the silver galvanised ones I was led to believe I had bought of their website.

First and last time I make the mistake of ordering off them to save a few quid.

Brickwerks all the way!

Be careful you could be next!!

Jon.

The Brickwerks ones were grey galv and VERY sturdy indeed. Heritage do them selves no good at all with this kind of crap.

There are way to many people trying that on now. Although if you want cheaper back plates buy bay backplates and convert them, easy enough and the bay plates were original vw and a hell of a lot cheaper.

from what I have seen

ALL GENUINE VW PARTS have the part number stamped into them and not just a sticker?

I have seen this in original back plates

easy way to tell, presuming the galv ones also have this?

Wiki with pictures of new and repaired backplates

I see Simon said in those days it's not worth arsing about fixing them.. well, it IS now

and quote from that Wiki page

The backplates are originally quite thick galvanised steel pressings (handed L/R).

and I see one of my new ones had a sticker on it, probably a number stamped somewhere as well though

so a wider audience with limited knowledge would see the post and know to double check before ordering. Do you think I shouldn't have done that?
