Engine Rebuild

Good Morning,
I am having the head rebuilt on me 1.9 waterbox. Head blow issue, all studs corroded, oil ring control etc.
So, my question is... am i being foolish not having the bottom engine stripped and rebuilt at the same time? Engine has always seemed pretty tight... clock on about 80k and I don't think its gone round, but i could just be being naive..
Thoughts and opinions welcome!
Will

It's common to have to do the water jackets and studs around 90k or sooner if its been stood lots or has not had correct coolant ....... The bottom end is good for twice that normally ..... If you do successfully get through the stud replacement all will be good, but be prepaired for problems with the studs! It's a known and well documented end to many 1.9 WBx engines if the studs snap when either removing the heads, removing the studs or infact replacing the heads at the end of the operation.
Good luck......

I wish you all the best, I have just finished what you are starting, I never touched the bottom end, just replaced all the studs and gaskets. I had a bit of grief trying to remove the studs from a spare engine I was going to build and swap but eventually gave up and just stripped the engine out the van.
Before trying to take the studs out I gave them a couple of good clouts with a hammer, they stop making the noise of a tuning fork after a few, then used a mac tools impact stud extractor on a battery impact gun and they came out no problem, managed to get the lot out in about 10 minutes!
Went back to the spare engine to try it out on the stubs that were left and it worked on them also, I had been welding nuts on and heating and getting nowhere fast before.
Good luck!
