Speedo bounce or intermittent. For info

After changing the cable, changing the hub cap, and still having the dreaded speedo bounce, I was resigned to accepting when it bounces between 30 to 50 MPH its true speed is somewhere inbetween.
I've been repairing the instrument binacle over the past few weeks, fibreglass, araldite, etc, as the speedo had actually broken away completely. When I was reassembling it all, I noticed that the clip on cable, when in place, had a bit of forward/backward movement, only about a millimetre or so. So when the van was in motion, I reached the cable and pushed it all the way on. Bingo!! Smooth speedo movement. I pulled it back a bit, and there was the bouncey speedo I learned to live with! The little clip that you press to release the cable, I forced a piece of cardboard under it, and now the cable cant move at all, no speedo bounce!!
Just thought I'd share.

Same here

Fixed it this morning just by turning the plastic clipping end of the cable by 90 degrees. Problem solved

First idea that comes looking at the speedo now - is it stuck?

Glad you fixed it properly, without bodging it or anything
You should do it properly, and use a piece of plastic ice cream tub. No point in a half assed repair, mate

A good bodge is always better than a knackered speedo,
Anyway, now that I've tried it out i'll put a cable tie on it, to force the bit that pivots down, down, if you get what I mean

How much bounce do you get then? (Still talking speedo cables here folk!)
Mine reads a very accurate speed (comparing to GPS) but is bouncing +/-5mph. Is that what we're talking about here? Before I start delving and no doubt break something else whilst fixing this!

+or - 5mph, I would live with. If I take the cable clip off mine it bounces about 30 to 40 mph, thats the range, no idea if theres any +, but there is definitely a minus
