Headlining

Hello,
I've stripped the camper back to a panel van and am insulting and ply lining the sides with 6mm ply.
I started on the head lining today and was going to do it in hard board. The problem is they only do an 8x4 sheet and this is not wide enough to do the front section.
What did anyone else do when they came across this problem?

Make it in two pieces, use another strip of ply on the back side of the join which over laps by about 50mm. Screw and glue it the full length. This is how I over came it in my van, once you have it carpeted the join is almost invisible.

Just googled it. Understand now. (sort of)
It's only 3mm hardboard though. Is a scarph joint possible?

If you make a feathered scarph you won't have a line showing. I would use ply as it is more forgiving and stable. You can make a scarph in any size material, it just depends on your planing skills really.

You'll never successfully scarf hardboard, the untreated side 'edge' will not feather smoothly at all, it's not stable enough, it'll end up all fluffy!
you can use 4mm ply, that's flexible enough to conform to shape and will scarf easily using a sanding block, just don't make the scarf too wide there is a danger of the edge breaking off when it gets down to just the one ply!
Hope this helps and good luck!

A scarf goes around the neck!
A good soaking of wood glue/resin would get over that problem. But hardboard isn't the right material realistically.

Thanks gents,
Looks like a 4mm ply scarph joint it is then!
