I wonder if anyone has any idea what might be causing my 1983 1.9 water cooled petrol T25 to stall. She hasn't been used much over the winter but was serviced late last year. I've taken her out a couple of times now and although she starts OK, every time we stop in traffic she stalls. She starts again easily enough but won't idle. I've also noticed that she doesn't sem to rev as high as she used to, i.e, when you start to rev her up when she does start she seems to get to maybe 3000 rpm then falters. On the move she is fine apart froma very intermitent misfire on the overrun. Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks i advance

have you cleaned your carb out?
sounds like it may be dirty?
when it fails to idle, does it try or just drop out? there is an electrical plug on the carb that needs 12v so that it will continue to run at idle. if this dosen't have 12 volts, I understand it won't idle at all.
Have you got old petrol in there....or could it have got water in it?

just a couple of ideas?

Thanks for your reply. It just cuts out.Although she starts straight away.The petrol is new but I might try some additive stuff to clean the system.I'll check that valve thing too when I get a chance. Thanks again

You can't really have a "miss-fire" on the over-run. A miss-fire can only be apparent when the engine is under some load. Do you mean it is backfiring on the over-run ?

If so then an air leak somewhere in the inlet is a likely cause. Any of the very thin air (vac) pipes around the carb and distributor. Or the brake servo hose (quite common) on the l/h side of the inlet manifold going to the bulkhead. The carb base is another place they can suck air in. Spraying WD40 over suspect areas whilst the engine is running can show up any leaks (the WD40 gets visibly sucked in)

Additive won't fix it by the way.

Nope John, the revs will go up as the engine is burning the WD.

Aye, but you can see it getting sucked in too, like you do with soap bubbles too. I know, I've done it just last week on the carb manifold of the Matchless (it was a bit warped)

But yours is better, I didn't know it did that

I'll bet it starts and runs great when it's cold... but as soon as it's warm...pants

additives...don't waste your money.
