Hi All
Just asking if anyone would know what would cause my speedo to give a false reading, when i'am doing about 30 its showing 45 it would not really bother me but its also winding the mileage on at that rate and i am on a 5000 mile limit with the insurance
Cheers Lee

Disconnect the speedo and use the satnav ? A flicking/ticking speedo can often be cured by disconnecting the cable and running a fine oil (3-in-1 for e.g.) down inside the sheath. VW speedos on average run 10% over anyway with the standard wheels on.

Running 195/15 will put some oil down the cable and go from there
Cheers for the replies

Yes but are they commercial tyres or car tyres?
The wall size will alter the rolling diameter, and the smaller the rolling diameter the faster the speedo will read, as the centre is turning faster and therefore going further.

Measure a true mile with the GPS against a speedo mile to see if its just the needle incorrectly fixed on, I had a van once where previous muppetty had resulted in the speedo needle being moved round and showing about 25 mph more than true on standard wheels and tyres , proved by changing speedo heads and nothing else

There 195/65/15 this just seems to be a low speed thing once on the motorway it seems normal about 60, its deffo wrong at 30 as we have one of them speed warning signs local that flags up your speed and its reading 45

That sort of innacuracy can only really be the speedo head (way out at low speed but accurate when going faster)

However, it might be worth just checking the 'drive end' of the cable to make sure it's properly secure etc.
