Wiper motor

Whilst driving the van last night in the rain the left hand wiper stopped working not ideal as the vans a left hand drive. On inspection the whole wiper arm just fell off in my hand and it became clear that the previous owner had bodged it. The spline it fits to is completely smooth and also the teeth on the wiper arm are worn smooth. The previous owner had driiled a hole through the side of the wiper arm and through the spline, then inserted part of a drill bit.I,m surprised its lasted the 12 months I,ve owned the van. It is now unrepairable so I wondered if anyone could tell me what I need to get it back up and running. The motor is still turning the spline. Are individual parts available? Does any one have the parts I need? Which side is the wiper motor on LHD?

They do RHS, but not LHS perhaps worth giving them a ring http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Wip ... tartRow=14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . They do have lhs for rhd though but I'm not sure it will fit or not

Take a small screwdriver to the splines on the shaft - they're probably just full of ally dust from the inside of the arm. Give them all a good scrape-out.

The arm itself's meant to be smooth on the inside - as you tighten it down, it bites into the nice clean empty splines on the shaft...

As far as the hold-down goes, drill the centre of the shaft, tap it, and put a screw or bolt down inside. It's not great, but with a couple of washers as spacers, it'll work just fine. Or, rather, it does work just fine on one of ours... <grin>
