Got the usual creaking front bushes but also get a very short sharp 'whistle' when i hit biggish potholes sunken grids etc. Suspension seems quite 'crashy' and this sort of metal on metal 'whistle'?

Squeeking/creeking = upper wishbone bushes .... enjoy !

If its at the front check your spare wheel carrier too
Mine was making metallic noises and it was rattling on big bumps and squeezing the wheel against the carrier
