who has a fiamma caravanstore

Hi i am thinking of purchasing a fiamma caravanstore awning and was wondering how they compare to the fixed version. They seem so simple to fit and use and the difference in price is quite considerable . However i am confused as to what the rails on my van are for. There is an awning type rail just above and starting at the front of the passenger door and finishing where the sliding door is hinged . but the groove on this rail faces upwards whereas an awning rail usually faces the front ! Then there is another sort of rail that starts where the passenger door meets the sliding door and this rail finishes at the back of the van but it is not an 'awning' rail it is more of a ledge. I am thinking possibly one of the figure of eight plastic attatchment things might fit on that but would it then hold a caravanstore. Advice/opinions please!!

The rail you have at present is called a 'J-Rail' and it is ideal for use with the plastic figure of 8 strips for attaching tent type awnings with the cord to slip the plastic strip along. For a Caravanstore you'll need an open 'C' profile rail, preferably one pointing down towards 7 o'clock if that makes sense ?
Cheers, Ian.

I used ally "C" rail on mine. It costs £24.99 for 3 x 1.2 metre lengths from Amazon, it is actually supplied by caravansupplies4U
The rail has a sticky back so you can stick it to the van prior to drilling the screw holes. The screws supplied with mine went rusty so I replaced them with stainless items from Screwfix. The big advantage with the caravanstore awning is you can take it off and leave it in the garage when not in use. I made up two 8mm dia plugs to fit into the end of the rails to keep it in place. You can also drill a hole in each end to fit a small padlock to make it more difficult to pinch!

Thankyou
all for the helpful info

I really need to utilise what is already there if possible because i do not have a 'handyman' handy

I
do have a drive away awning but i remember it used to be bit of pain to attach to the van with some sort of metal screw clips but if the plastic figure of eight rail will fix to the j bar then that might make life easier, but still think caravanstore and a windbreak would be an easier option for a weekend.

A Caravanstore will not stay on a 'J-rail' as I said you need an open-ended 'C-rail', they are for attaching drive away awnings.
