westy 12v fridge relay problem...

Took the fridge out the other day to dust off the fins. Whilst giving it a once over I noticed the spade connectors to the 12v relay were slightly charred.......
Switched the fridge to 12v with engine running and the wires from the loom to the relay were getting hot.
Took the cover off the relay and it is switching ok, but now I am worried.
I have disconnected the wires for now.
Are there any decent electricians out there who can help....
(Mocki)..
Checked the wiki without any luck and VW have now discontinued the relay.

a relay is a relay, given the correct amperage, £2.50 from any motor factors. its a 5 pole on a westy. . . not sure about the hot wires though, sounds like something is short circuit (but you would get fire not warm wire ??) fridge problem ??

bad connections get hot!

renew the spade connections, or better still renew the wire with a bigger core and solder the connections. More likely than not the spades were loose or dirty or the wire not big enough.
