Anonymous switch & light?

Hi

I have 1980 CU engined, T25 Viking camper, and doing a little pre season work have noticed on the lower part of the dashboard to the right of the steering column, the broken remains of a small lever switch, and adjacent to that a small warning light which I believe was orange (lense has dropped out). I have suck my head under the dash and can see that the switch has two blue wires going to it, one from the fuse board, but not sure where the other goes to. The light wires seem to go to what looks like a relay (orange).

Any ideas what they may be, we have been using the van for a couple of years, and not missed whatever marvellous function they perform.
:ok
Thanks Keith

12v feed to fridge (I think, it's cropped up before; my Dad's Xplorer had it too. Only to be used when the engines running.

Thanks 1664, sounds like you are probably right as the fridge has never worked on 12v only gas and 240v.

I will try it out when I have the chance :D :D

Or you will very quickly have a flat battery

Also note that you won't feel the fridge getting cold for up to an hour.

Do not forget to turn it off when you reach your destination and stop the engine. The vast majority of vans switch the 12v fridge supply with a relay that drops out automatically and disconnects the fridge the moment the engine is switched off so that you don't have to remember to switch things manually. Do you have a proper fog lamp fitted. I've seen a few older cars and vans with toggle switch like this to power aftermarket fogs. Most people here would probably source a proper oem switch and light unit but a lot of garages way back when would just add a universal switch, a telltale lamp and an under bumper rear fog.

Cound be anything really by the sound of it. Fridge, lights or something else. I don't suppose one of the blues goes anywhere near the relay does it? Any sign of where the other relay wires end up?

Thanks Pirate-Pete, but now pretty sure its a switch for the 12v feed to the fridge. Not had change to try yet as van is away for some welding.
