Well today we pulled out the old kitchen units and no surprise we found rust and holes, looking for some suggestions as to what to do really, worried that the middle of the floor is a bit weak and also how to treat the rest of the floor and then also where the side panel joins the floor, worried this is going to put a big hole in our budget and slow up the restoration.

Only way to sort that is cut out whats gone. Floor could be grit blasted and treated but outer panel:

Total cost was about £60

Vacuum and scrape out the sill till it's spotless.
Treat it (see Wiki for Dinitrol and paints)
Weld 1.2 ~ 1.5 mm steel plate to cap the whole lot (sill cap), a punch with Qmax a few 22mm holes for maint and future vac outs and treatment innit!), use std 22mm clear plastic VW plugs

The floor , no prob. just wire brush loose off till arm falling off. Treat with RC800 or RC900 Dinitrol, then paint with Frosts Chassis Black
Job and home, rebuild kitchen and try to make sure you get no condensation future, insulate that kitch panel properly for a start

Yes, those ex-panel van converted campers always have those little extras that we forget about, until the units are removed... ?

Thanks for your replies, never tried welding but know a man who can who we spoke to today and they are going to take a look for us, your right if we are going to do it, its got to be done right, don't want to put new units in only to have to take them out again in a years time!!

I have an '88 panel van, converted 1yr after purchase and she's good . . . working on the bodywork at mo but had no problems with the interior. I would def recommend the Dinitrol . . . its my best friend now . . . Thanks Clive
