Knackered carb

Hi everyone

Usually run on lpg but fed up of sweating about finding next lpg garage. The previous owner said that the carb was just blocked with crud from the petrol tank so I changed tank. Still had problems so got carb cleaned, Elite VW said that the carb had been filled with mastic and was knackered. I need to be able to run on petrol so do you know anyone who supplies refurbished carbs (without a donor). I've an automatic DG and want to spend as little as poss! Tried Southern Carbs who said that pierburgs are getting so hard to source that they don't do refurb them any more.

all the best

At nearly all vw shows there are traders selling carbs.
At Bustypes last year used manifold and carb £30.
Better than nothing

Seriously? You can't find LPG ?
Even in the highlands of Scotland we never once switched to petrol!
It's even easier now smartphone apps are available.

I think I have a carb off a DG kicking about in the stores but I need to check......

Fairly small tank fitted in back cupboard - about 100 miles. Been caught out when stations that app said sold lpg had shut down completely. Rural areas are better than my bit of London

Hi

Just resurrecting this post in case anyone who hasn't seen it can point me in the right direction for a good pierburg carburetta for my 1.9 DG Auto. Thanks a lot.

PS just snapped another JK accelerator pedal, don't think Brickwerks have any, so ideas also welcome for a source.

When I took my van for it's lpg conversion a few weeks ago (managed to do 38 miles on gas before packing up - having a very unfortunate set of events with the less than useless garage - will post more when it's all done - fingers crossed), I had the mechanic do an emissions test first. He noted that a particular reading was far too high and that he would adjust the carb to bring the figure down, however he later said that the carb is 'old and tired' and would need replacing to prevent the emissions from failing the MOT. The engine starts in a fraction of a second, runs beautifully and idles like a dream, is he full of bull or could it be that in this instance he is correct???? Mitch.

PS. all apologies for hijacking!

Who cares ! Your carb is now only a funnel, and your van must be mot tested on the fuel you drive it in on, so drive in on gas and the petrol emissions not matter!

I care because it did 38 miles before packing up and the test has run out. Garage is pants and I need to get a test on it one way or another! Other than this trivial fact, I agree that the carb's purpose is almost redundant!!!!!

Frankly you should be insisting the cowboy who installed it comes to you to fix it surely!

Still hoping for an answer regarding my carb as my lpg conversion of 3 weeks in age has gone boobies-up, if you catch my drift!
