I'm gonna be replacing the thermostat in the next couple of days , had a look through the Haynes and it looks a bit of a faff. Any hints or tips much apreciated. Daz

Get soaking everything in penetrating fluid ... that's Plus Gas or GT85 NOT WD40. Be prepared to replace the pump as well when things snap off in other things
Good luck

Perhaps a small blowtorch (with a pre-appreciated bean tin to act as a heatshield) and some of the 'Freeze-it' spray or whatever it's called. Basically anything that will turn the nuts and studs back into separate pieces.

If it provides any hope, i took out the water pump and stat on my early system 84 without breaking anything (other than some knuckle skin). But i dare say, the penetrating fluid would be worth it.

Firstly, no need to worry if you are prepared and have kind folks offering help. I did mine recently and if you search there are some pics n tips from when i did it. My advice is to soak all nuts /bolts every night for at least three days or a week if poss. Then when using tools be a bit gentle to start off so as not to put too much stress on old parts too quickly. I found a slow and careful method left the job more straightforward than expected. Parts from brickerks if poss to avoid any timewasting replacement.......when i did mine ai also used the opportunity to replace some of the studs holding the water pipes onto the heads with SS allen headed bolts. Good luck.
