After a cursory search I find the need to ask if Vactan is good for say 600' F.

I want to use VHT paint on my exhaust but despite liberal use of the wire brush/flap wheel there is still a fair bit of pitting i can't remove. Is vactan good enough for those temps that I can spray over it?
Or am I talking complete and utter rubbish?

I'd be gobsmacked if it was. Just wirebrush the crusty stuff off, then paint it. It's an old exhaust pipe, and failure of it is VERY unlikely to be due to rusting from the outside in. Usually, it's the other way round. Painting it won't extend it's life, just make it look pretty on it's death bed.

Vactan will not work on anything that hot. No way.

Doesn't matter much what you apply to steel exhausts, they tend to rust. All you can do is clean it up as best you can (or grit blast ideally) then use VHT paint but eventually it'll get rusty again.

The exhaust I'm talking about was manufactured back in 1997 by the london stainless steel company, they must have used a poor grade for the tubing cos the silencer boxes are nice shiny 316 grade
(it's not for a T25, not even VW! Sorry).
I've cleaned up the tubes as best I can, few dings and scrapes over the years but still sound, the vactan question was just a wild shot in the dark as I kind of knew but wasn't sure type thing...
I am now in the possession of some lovely matt black 600F spray paint, should look nice when finished.

galv is cheapo actually if yours goes in with another load, there is a minimum charge is all, as said blast if your that fussed, you could go vitreouse enamel but that would cost more than a new set of pipes and not that good on tube ,more for castings.

Not really if it has lasted 15 years. I had one made by them (if your taking about the one in Queentown Road) about the same time and it is still going strong yes it's not shiny anymore the pipework is made out of a more malleable stainless to stop fracturing but it doesn't corrode through.

Sorry I meant a poorer grade than the slencer box material. I understand they don't always use top grade shiny stuff for the tubing for the aforementioned reason.
It cleaned up nicely and now has a good coating of 600 deg C Hi temp paint on.
