Those nasty gudgeon pin circlips

Just finished putting my pistons back in and I would like to share a little tip, no doubt someone has done this before but anyway, as well as stuffing rags down the back of the pistons to save losing them in the sump, I found that a suitable piece of steel bar (wider than the gap of the relaxed circlip obviously) or long screwdriver inserted through the centre of the gudgeon pins with the circlip then fed over it stops the pinging circlip from going any where nasty such as a dirty grey workshop floor as well as sump as it will stay over the bar.

Yes but just think of the hours of fun you miss out on playing "fish the gugeon pin circlip out of the crankcase with a magnet on a stick"

or worse - "I'm sure it pinged over there behind that pile of old paintcans, sawdust and assorted rubbish...."
