BRAKE PADS

Hi don,t want to appear thick but equally so don,t want to buy the wrong ones so can anyone tell me are there only 2 types of front brake pads square shaped (early) and crescent shaped (late).Mine is H reg 1.9 petrol panel van crescent shaped on single piston calipers.Thanks in advance.Bob

There are only two types....as you say early square (upto about 86) and later crescent shaped (from 86 to 91) yours are the latter.
Where there is confushion is in the calipers themselves....ATE & Girling...where there are more than two types but this doesn't effect the brake pad choice.
Really easy to change, just remove the two 8mm bolts out of the sliding pins (some just remove the lower bolt and swing the caliper up out of the way) but I prefer to remove both to get better access to the carrier to scrape and clean everything properly before applying a smear of brake pad grease to all contact areas and the edges of the brake pads themselves.
I also rotate the disc and scrape off the loose rust from the outter edge of the disc.
You will also need to push the single piston completely back into the caliper....make sure you have removed the brake resevoir cap and wrap a great wad of rag around the resevoir in case it overflows (brake fluid can seriously damage paint! be careful***)
Remember that NEW pads on WORN disc's take quite a bit of 'bedding in' so don't overwork the brakes for the first 200 miles or so...

Thanks martin will get some bought and fitted,like most blokes i,ve got a garage full of "wrong ones" chucked on a shelf gets a bit tedious after a while.Thanks again bob
