emergency flasher malfunction

Just passed my MOT but was advised that when the emergency flasher switch is used only the nearside flashers work. Both sides of flashers work front and rear when used normally. Where to look first ?

Check the wiring to the hazard switch and make sure the connector to terminal R is intact. If so remove switch and make sure when it is switched to on position you have continuity between terminals L and R.
Am surprised you passed as if hazard lights are fitted they are supposed to light all corners to pass. Unless you had a pre 1986 van and the tester did you a big favour by removing and bypassing the switch.

So that people can assist can you confirm what vehicle this problem relates to?

Van is a 1985 2L. Thought emergency flashers all worked on general principles whatever the model but obviously wrong about that. Always test all my lights before MOT's but never occurred to me to test those. Will work on it tomorrow in a 25mph East wind.

Yes but what type of van? VW did not make a 2 litre T25 van in 1985. Different vehicles have different issues,

Think you need to get the door seal fixed if the wind is getting in the cab like that. Or some windows

Have received specified switch J15164 ( OEM 161-953-235/B from JustKampers and when plugged in the hazard lights work correctly. So it is the switch at fault .
However the replacement switch although verbally assured when ordering that it is correct for this model (1912cc 1985 ) does not fit in the aperture. the fittings are totally different. It has a flange at the front and appears as if it is meant to fit in from the front but doesn't fit that way or from the reverse like the old one. I have even filed off the flange as I thought it might fit from the reverse but doesn't due to two moulded flanges at each side of the inside of the aperture. From the internet catalogue it would appear the only one they offer for the T25. Before getting back to JK I was wondering if anyon else has tried fitting a J15164 switch from JK and succeeded. Cannot see which model it was meant for other than the T25.
I am not phased about not being able to return it having damaged it as the cost is a drop in the ocean in the cost of running a T25. Any advice which helps will be rewarded witha Blood Orange at Christmas.
Otherwise its off to MegaBug etc., for an original switch.

Belated thanks Mocki. I followed your tests and as you suggest there was no continuity between L and R terminals. Might cut it open to find out why as this switch is rarely used.

Tried Mega Bug for a second hand one and they quoted just over £17 compared to a Brickwerks brand new VW original equipment one for £16 something. A no brainer. Again thanks to all who have helped me in this quest.
Will retrieve it from the Post Office tomorrow as was out when delivered.
