Hi, this bit of hose needs replacing, it's repaired with tin foil I think, but being an engine newbie, I've no idea what it's called. I know it's hose of some sort,
oh and a general photo of the engine, now a little cleaner
many thanks, sorry for the daft questions

It's the warm air pick up ducting.
Throw it away, it serves no purpose in temps above -20°c other than to rattle.
It was not included on the later exhaust system anyway , after '85

Thanks Mocki
Just out of interest, where does it pick up warm air from and deliver it to? Before I take it off and chuck it
Oh, and in temps of below -20, I won't be in the van so it definitely won't matter

from a shroud around one of the exhaust pipes and it ducts to the air filter inlet

Thanks mm, so it takes exhaust air/fumes? And puts it through the air filter? Doesn't that clog the air filter faster?
Oh, thank you Dazco

errr nope, it picks up fresh air that has been gerntly and lovingly warmed by your exhaust pipe and directs it to the airbox.

Unless you have a hole in your J pipe !!
Either way its not needed and is just extra weight and rattles

Are you sure?
You'll find they run much smoother in low temperatures with them fitted and working, you just need some 50mm alloy ducting just over a meter long.
