Hi just got the van with no name running one thing that was strange apart from knocked together injector pipes was that the diesel return went to a pipe which seems to return to the tank

as opposed to back to the fuel filter the injection pump had a single banjo fitting which I have now changed to a double as that is what seems to be on every pump I've seen was this a bodge job by someone or is this some anomally exclusive to syncros?

Which fuel filter does it have?

Are you saying that the leak off pipe rather than going to the banjo fitting on the outlet of the pump it actually goes to a t piece in the return line to the tank?

The wk842/4 fuel filter has the thermovalve on top of the filter, fuel is then returned to the tank from there. The wk842 /3 is just a simple filter with no thermovalve but is usually fitted to 86/87 vans, late vans are usually the wk842/4.

Yep it had the later filter on it its a late van. Didn't look logical or standard to me to have it running that way also blocked off the return line to the tank as it was pissing out diesel

I have seen them like that before Paul, just never really took any notice of why, it was on, it didn't leak and caused no problems so left alone!
If you need to we have polyamide tube and the banjo fittings for it, plus we have the reinforcing sleeves to slip inside the tube and the original looking press sockets to crimp the rubber on the top.
I would be interested to see how it's plumbed at the filter.

Out of interest have the coolant pipes for the heater matrix been cut/rejoined?
Mine had been and when I put those bits of info together with some holes I found drilled in the battery tray behind the battery I came to the conclusion that there had been a webasto coolant heater or similar fitted at some point.

So I gambled on that "fuel return" being actually being a pick up pipe and plumbed in the fuel for my eber pump to it. Works a treat, I've not had the tank out to see what's mounted in there, but I suspect it's a proper pick up.

I didn't really want to splice into fuel lines going to the engine, so it all worked out brilliantly.

The van with no name has had numerous engines fitted by various fitters and always done on a budget! Mechanically, nothing else was ever done to it.

Thanks guys will have a look at it in the next few days and post up some better pics. Simon I have an order in the pipeline just have to see what I have in my spare parts stash and also what I need before i put it in
