Help and advice needed, following many painstaking hours, total engine rebuild on air cooled 1.6ct .All timing set correctly, engine starts, runs lumpy, and WILL NOT TICK OVER.Carb has been stripped down and rebuilt with new gasket set,not once but twice.Set up carb as Haynes manual states.I was woundering if any one would have a carb that i could try ,as having nothing but problems with this van since purchacing through this forum. Please see other posts.I have tested for air leaks, none found, plenty of fuel getting to carb,a new inline fuel filter fitted. We have spent a lot of money on the van since we purchased it and i am at a loss as to know what next to do.pockets empty and head mashed.Fire lighters are an option, wife shouts not yet .Someone please help to get this van running on the road.

If carb is ok, a clogged air filter (and they can look clean but still be starving engine of air) could be the culprit. Try removing the air filter to rule it out. Or, theres a bad air leak between carb and inlet ports or commonly, severe play in throttle flap shaft. If not you need to check ignition side.
Also, we have no idea where you are. An 80/90 member in your area may be able to pinpoint the prob fairly quickly. Mind you, have no idea where Faggie is either. Update your profiles folks.....

Hello,
Got your PM,
Ok, so you've rebuilt your CT and it runs....
So far so good..
Does it have electromechanic (ie:Hall) ignition.... 2 electronic boxes on the LHS of the engine bay
When you say you have timed it up, what was the setting, how many degrees AFTER tdc did you set, at 800 rpm with the idle corrector shunted out .
Photos will help.
Did you use a proper manifold spacer (bakelite) and 2 paper gaskets mounted dry when fitting the carb, no air leaks?, then...
I would be inclined to look elsewhere then the carb, basically they work well, and as long as petrol and air are flowing, there is not too much of a problem.
Old electronics and connectors are a good source of potential problems, with connections becoming iffy as the engine warms up.
The coil should be compared with a known good one, ( make sure for compatibility.)
Here is a photo of my CT, SVDA distributor, no wongy flaps, stripped engine bay:
I did this retro fit, as my Hall system stops me from tuning the engine as I wish.
Interesting... I get 28 mpg, and my son, with standard set up CT gets (at the moment) 22 mpg...
To be looked at.
Remember a SVDA setup costs less than the sensor for your Hall system.
They will want to be burning me at the stake....
But then they're only volksy engines... simple..reliable..cheap.....
And a bit slow in standard form....
Pictures please..
Cordialement,

Hi. I also have similar van and had same probs. Could be as said above however sounds similar to a problem I had two months ago and it turned out to be a corroded fuel pipe into the carb. You can't see it as it'll be covered with that canvas style pipe cover. If it is corroded then replace with new pipe and hey presto. Simple and cheap but an annoying issue I agree.
I am having solex 34 pict 4 carb probs now
